Limited Edition BMW M3 and M4 50 Jahre editions celebrate half a century of BMW’s M division.

BMW is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its M division with a special edition of the M3 and M4 Competition models, called the M3 and M4 50 Jahre BMW M Edition. Though only the 25 M4 coupe version is set for the Australian market.

There are no changes mechanically to the M4 50 Jahre so it features the same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine producing 375kW and 650Nm of torque. Expect an identical 3.9-second 0-100km/h time as the M4 Competition and 250km/h limited top speed.

The M4 50 Jahre will be available with an eight-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the rear wheels as well as a four-wheel drive xDrive model.

What the 50 Jahre does get is some new exterior colours – Carbon Black, Macao Blue, Brands Hatch Grey, Imola Red and San Marino Blue. The 19-inch forged wheels on the front and 20-inch wheels on the rear are offered in either Orbit Grey Matt or Gold Bronze matt.

Inside we see door sill panels with the lettering ‘Edition 50 Jahre BMW M’ – which is also featured on the headrest of the M carbon bucket seats. There’s also a metal plaque on the centre console inscribed ‘M4 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M’.

BMW hasn’t said how many M4 50 Jahre Editions will be built for the European market, but numbers will be ‘limited’. The US and Canada are being offered 500 versions of the M3 50 Jahre Edition in even more colour options, Like the regular North American M3, it’ll available with either an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.

It’s not the only car that’ll honour the landmark for the Munich brand’s sporting sub-division this year – an M3 Touring launch will be following the recently revealed hardcore M4 CSL. We can also expect BMW to debut a production version of the Concept XM by the end of the year.

Pricing for the M4 50 Jahre BMW M Edition has been set in Australia from $201,900 before on-road costs.
