Ferrari Universo opened its doors in Australia for the first time in history as the all-new Ferrari Purosangue SUV made its local debut – but good luck ordering one.

Ferrari’s exclusive Universo Ferrari experience has opened in Sydney, making the stage for the debut of the all-new Purosangue SUV. The new model sits among an exotic display of the greatest Ferrari models to ever grace the famed Prancing Horse emblem.

Built on a new aluminium chassis, the Purosangue features unique active suspension, rear-opening ‘welcome’ doors, and is powered by a familiar 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 producing 533kW. Despite a $728,000 before on-roads starting price in Australia, orders for the Purosangue have already closed due to rising wait times. That makes it easily more expensive than any other performance SUV rival, such as the Aston Martin DBX or Lamborghini Urus.

There’s a mix of SF90 and 296 GTB to the design of its raised nose, with aero ducts over and through the front bonnet and wheel arches. You might spot some GTC4 Lusso design cues in its flanks and rear design, including the swollen rear haunches that necessitated the need to hinge the doors from the C-pillar rather than the B. The front hinged clamshell bonnet adds some drama to proceedings too.

This year – 2022 – celebrates the 75th anniversary of Ferrari. It’s first time Universo Ferrari has ever been exibited beyond the Italian marque’s hometown of Maranello. The significance of the event, which is open to both Ferrari customers and fans, is the ideal platform to display the brand’s new SUV, the Purosangue. It’s also the first time the Purosangue has ever been shown in the metal in the southern hemisphere, and it sits alongside Australia’s debut appearance of the limited-production Daytona SP3.

“Ferrari enjoys a time-honoured bond with the motoring enthusiasts in Australia,
having been here for the last 70 years while the brand celebrates its 75th
anniversary,” said Enrico Galliera, Chief Marketing & Commercial Officer at Ferrari. “It’s fitting that we share this occasion with our clients and fans by having this unique exhibition, thus bringing a piece of Maranello to Sydney.”

Ferrari Universo is hosted in Sydney at the Australian Turf Club, Royal Randwick Racecourse. Beyond the star appearances of the Purosangue and SP3 are a curated collection of iconic Ferraris new and old, including classic racing cars and the entire current stable.

Following a look at its racing past is an insight of Ferrari Classiche, the world’s most renowned classic Ferrari restoration program including factory experts who are responsible for restoring and maintaining some of the most iconic Ferrari models in history. The star of this room is, “one of Ferrari’s most famous cars, coveted by many a collector.”

Moving on from its classic car collection is Ferrari lifestyle, which includes a look at Corse Clienti and Competizioni GT, Ferrari’s customer racing programs.

There is much more on offer, too, including Ferrari Tailor Made, and insights on the brand’s future. Doubtless, this is the premiere Ferrari event for Ferrari fans.
