The Ferrari Roma is set to receive a Spider variant, and spy photographers have already spotted it testing on public roads.

As rumours of a V12-powered Ferrari Roma gain momentum, spy photographers have provided our first glimpse of the drop-top Roma Spider in the shape of this heavily camouflaged mule. Specs and a release date are still under wraps, but we expect to see the model in full in 2023.

First revealed in coupe-form in 2019, the Roma provided strong competition to the likes of the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT, drawing new GT customers to the brand. The model quickly proved to be an excellent new addition to the Ferrari range, with its refreshing, elegant design and strong performance across the board.

As is the way with today’s Ferrari models, it was only a matter of time before it lost its roof, and this heavily-camouflaged test mule offers our very first look. Though its cladding obscures any design changes, minor alterations to the roofline and rear deck are clear to see. Though yet to be confirmed, it’s likely that the Roma Spider will receive a folding hardtop akin to the kind found on the Portofino.

The Spider will receive the same front-mid-mounted 4-litre twin-turbo V8 as its coupe sibling, sending 460kW and 760Nm of torque to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Expect performance figures to be near-identical to the coupe too, at around 3.4sec to 100km/h with a 320km/h+ top speed.
