Ford Mustang Mach-E is available to order in Australia from next week.
Ford Australia has confirmed the fully-electric Mustang Mach-E will be available to purchase in Australia with order opening next week.
The online reservations system for the all-electric Mustang Mach-E will go live at ford.com.au ‘on the afternoon’ of May 10. No specific time has been given.
Customers will be able to select their trim model and pay a $1000 deposit to secure their allocated vehicle. Ford says it expects production to begin shortly and that the first batch will be available for delivery later this year.
There will be three variants to choose from, including the range-topping Mach-E GT with over 350kW of power and 860Nm of tyre-shredding torque.
While the Mustang Mach-E is the halo electric vehicle in Ford’s stable it won’t be the first EV on local soil given the E-Transit van is soon to launch – and they are just two of the five (at minimum) EVs Ford is planning to launch by the end of 2024.
The Mach-E GT which will be the most expensive model (pricing is yet to be announced), has a dual-motor powertrain that gives AWD traction off the line for a 3.7-second 0-100km/h time, meaning it’s easily a match for the Tesla Model Y Performance and the fastest Ford model in the Blue Oval’s showroom locally.
Chassis upgrades come in the form of Ford’s MagnaRide 2 adaptive suspension set-up, while 385mm Brembo brakes help stop the EV and rein in its extra performance.
The GT uses the larger of two batteries, with its 91kWh lithium-ion unit good for a claimed 490km driving range on a full charge (WLTP). The mid-spec Premium uses the same battery and claims a longer 600km rating, but output drops to 216kW and 430Nm.
At the entry point to the Mustang Mach-E range in Australia is the Select which comes equipped with a smaller 71kWh battery. Powering a single rear-mounted electric motor, the output is capped at 198kW and 430Nm but the range is a respectable 470km. The smaller battery will help reduce costs also.
Ford states that the above range claims are pending final homologation, but we’d expect they will come in very close looking at specifications for overseas models.
The interior is dominated by a central 15.5-inch Tesla-style touchscreen, which features Ford’s SYNC4 infotainment. The letterbox-style 10.2-inch digital display behind the steering wheel provides information for the driver to glance at quickly.
Additional equipment confirmed includes wireless mobile phone charging, 10-speaker B&O Sound System, and all models on sale in Australia are fitted with a panoramic sunroof as standard.
Customers will be able to reserve their Mustang Mach-E online at Ford Australia’s official website, with reservations open May 10. Customer cars will be handled via one of Ford’s EV-approved dealers.
