Concepts rarely make it to production with much of their dignity intact, but it’s hard to ignore the Opulent Velocity’s streamlined silhouette
GM has used the Monterey Car Week in California to unveil its latest show car: the all-electric Cadillac Opulent Velocity, dubbed “The future of all-electric luxury performance”.
“Opulent Velocity is an experience-based design study,” says Cadillac design boss Bryan Nesbitt. “It’s the future vision of luxury performance, incorporating Cadillac’s leadership in hands-free driving capabilities, electrification and performance excellence.
“Opulent Velocity expresses the most artful integration of technology, luxury and exhilaration characterized by Cadillac’s halo V-Series variants, and future electrification design expressions.”
The Opulent Velocity clearly takes its cues from the already launched and ultra-luxurious Celestiq, while pushing its themes further into the realm of fantasy. Although, as production capabilities continue to evolve, there’s arguably very little about the Velocity that could not go into production – albeit at exotic collector pricing levels.
This latest concept comes hot on the heels of the Sollei, unveiled last than a month ago as a reminder that Cadillac was once the king of big and long droptops.
You can read the marketing fluff on Cadillac’s press site, but it’s the images and video below that you should be tuning into.
