TAG Heuer releases the culmination of its Carrera 60th anniversary celebrations with a golden Carrera Chronograph.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph is an elegant throwback to a time when visionary watch designer, Jack Heuer would gift gold Heuer timepieces to the legendary racing drivers of the 1960s and ‘70s. Drivers such as Niki Lauda and Ronnie Petersen were just some of the recipients of such gifts and now this new timepiece captures the spirit of both Jack Heuer and the iconic racers who wore the originals. The gold Carrera Chronograph also represents the finale in a celebration of the Carrera’s 60th anniversary, and one that has seen the release of numerous contemporary and classic timepieces.
The new watch features the ground-breaking Glassbox design that was reintroduced to the famed Carrera line-up earlier this year. With the Glassbox sapphire design flowing over the flange, it endows the Carrera Chronograph with a fluid silhouette, and yet the watch retains a muscular feel with its pronounced lugs. To ensure excellent legibility in strong light conditions, the Glassbox sapphire crystal features double anti-reflective treatment.
The 39mm diameter case is fashioned in 18K 3N yellow gold with a fine-brushed and polished finish (lug to lug, the Carrera Chronograph measures 46mm and has a total thickness of 13.9mm). The screw-down case back is also 18K 3N yellow gold, as are the push buttons at 2 and 4 o’clock. The case back features a sapphire crystal to observe the in-house Calibre TH20-00 automatic movement.
Beneath the Glassbox sapphire crystal is an 18K 3N yellow gold-plated dial with vertical brushing. At 3 and 9 o’clock, the dial features black azure subdials in a display that recalls the legendary reverse Panda dials of early Carrera models. The permanent seconds indicator subtly resides at 6 o’clock and is distinguished by its black lacquered hand, while the minute and hour chronograph counters use 18K 3N yellow gold-plated hands. The hour and minute hands are also finished in polished 18K 3N yellow gold-plating and feature a facetted design with white Super LumiNova.
Water resistant to 100 metres, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph is presented on a contrasting perforated black calfskin leather strap that is secured with a pin buckle in 18K 3N yellow gold. The pin buckle reflects the case with fine-brushed and polished surfacing, and it also features the TAG Heuer shield.
