Primed for release in 2028, Lamborghini’s first EV will be a four-door grand tourer with unique proportions.

Lamborghini is gearing up for a pure-electric future, and this month’s Pebble Beach concours will provide a first glimpse of this with a concept foreshadowing the brand’s first EV. Set to arrive in 2028, the new model won’t take a traditional supercar form, instead adopting a four-door GT bodystyle – as indicated by this newly released teaser image.

Along similar lines to the Estoque concept from 2008, Lamborghini’s EV will borrow design cues from its supercar stablemates in a more practical 2+2 layout, underpinned by a dedicated electric car platform. The firm is expected to draw from the wider Volkswagen Group for the new model’s architecture, with the scalable SSP Sport platform a likely candidate.

SSP Sport is being developed by Porsche for future versions of the Taycan and Panamera, so it’s a natural fit for Lamborghini’s new four door. When it debuts in 2026, the SSP platform will use an 800V electronic architecture to support 350kW rapid charging, and while it’s too early to predict battery and motor specifications, SSP Sport will offer over 1250kW in its most powerful configuration. Volkswagen has also confirmed that its premium brands will have access to performance-oriented battery systems for SSP models, which Lamborghini will surely utilise.

With its sharp shoulder line and bow-like silhouette, the new model will be unmistakably Lamborghini, and its EV architecture has enabled a more distinctive proportion set than the Estoque’s long-bonnet design. With no combustion engine up front, Lamborghini has extended the new model’s cabin to create a usable four-seat layout inside.

With a projected release in 2028, the launch of Lamborghini’s first EV will coincide with the 60th anniversary of the glorious V12-engined Espada – another 2+2 grand tourer that offered supercar performance in period.
