MG confirms the new MG5 coupe to arrive in Australia in 2022-2023.
MG will introduce a new model into the local lineup but won’t arrive for at least 12 months, and possibly even not until 2023.
The sleek coupe touts MG’s latest design language and is equipped with a bevy of the latest technology, from driving aids to interior spec with digital dash and infotainment, so expect another sharp offering from the Chinese-owned British marque.
Underneath the skin is the choice of two 1.5-litre engines, one naturally-aspirated and producing 89kW, and one turbocharged with 129kW. Both can use with a five-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic to power the front wheels.
Dimensionally it is around the size of a conventional hatchback, measuring 4675mm long, 1842mm wide, and 1480mm tall. There is also an MG5 wagon sold in the UK but it is unrelated to the model that will arrive in Australia and is built in Thailand.
While the new MG5 won’t be here for some time, MG has confirmed that the updated MG ZS EV, which we’ve already driven, will launch in Australia before mid-2022.
