The new-for 2021 M260 tuning package for Puma and Fiesta ST bumps power to 192kW.

Mountune has just dropped information on its latest tuning kits focused on Ford’s 147kW 1.5-litre turbocharged Ecoboost engine found in both the Fiesta ST and new Puma ST crossover (the latter not available in Australia).

This new M260 package joins the current M225 and M235 packages already available for the Mk8 Fiesta ST, building power from the triple to (you guessed it) 192kW, or 260 metric horsepower. Torque is also up to 365Nm, only a snip behind bigger hitters like the new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport, despite weighing considerably less.

This 45kW and 75Nm rise compared to the stock Fiesta and Puma STs is derived from the usual ECU flash, but Mountune do suggest it best practice to also fit its induction and charge pipe kits, and a new intercooler to keep a handle on internal engine and air temperatures.

These upgrades don’t involve any changes on the exhaust side of things, with Mountune’s M260 packages leaving the factory exhaust system, PPF and catalytic converters alone so not to upset emissions ratings.

Within the new ECU formatting though, Mountune’s engineers have been able to include new features utilising the standard hardware, including an enhanced launch control function, new parameters for the operation of the valved exhaust system and an optimized flat-shift function during upchanges.

Alongside this new flagship M260 setup, Mountune has also announced that its lesser M235 is now also available in the new Puma ST, which fundamentally shares an identical powertrain and chassis to the smaller and lighter Fiesta.

The new M260 kit costs from £675 (AUD$1200), but those that already have a Fiesta fitted with the lesser kit can upgrade to the new M260 calibration for a further $200. As mentioned above, the upgraded cooling is not mandatory, but given the reasonable gains it sounds like a wise investment given the 1.5-litre engine’s highly-strung nature.
