aria-label="Renault ev"Renault will begin the countdown to its next EV later this month, when it reveals a concept car previewing a new small electric SUV using a brand new platform.

At the company’s inaugural ‘eWays’ event – a forum running from 15 to 26 October dedicated to revealing new Renault electric and hybrid technologies and vehicles – the French firm will showcase a new concept crossover, and has teased the vehicle too.

We can’t take much from the teaser image, which appears to hint at a radical new design approach with slim, swirling LED headlights. However, the company has confirmed that the concept car will directly preview an upcoming electric SUV sitting on a new platform called CMF-EV.

The CMF-EV platform is already in use elsewhere in the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, underpinning the new all-electric Nissan Ariya. In the Nissan, two battery sizes are offered – 65kWh and 90kWh – enabling ranges of 375 kilometres and 599 kilometres on a single charge respectively.
