Skoda has set its in-house design and engineering students loose on the Enyaq SUV and they’ve come up with a camper.

has revealed the theme for this year’s ‘Student Car’ – the annual programme run by the Czech brand that allows its young apprentices to unleash their creativity by creating a one-off concept based on an existing Skoda road car.

The programme, formerly known as Azubi, has been running since 2014. Last year’s project saw a team of Skoda students transform a Kamiq crossover into the wild, rally-inspired Afriq, stripping the firm’s Nissan Juke rival down to its bare bones and repurposing it into a three-door, Dakar-ready off-roader. But this year, the apprentices look set to embrace the more leisurely side of motoring.

For the first time, Skoda’s younglings are getting their hands on the all-electric Enyaq iV SUV, with plans to transform the brand’s MEB-based model into a ‘mobile-office camper’.

It won’t be the first time the student car programme has resulted in an all-electric vehicle – the class of 2017 had that covered with the reveal of the Element concept, a higher-riding beach buggy take on the Citigo city car. But it does present students with a chance to take advantage of the Enyaq’s purpose-made electric platform and its associated packaging benefits.

A couple of teaser sketches preview what’s brewing. An Enyaq iV looks set to be transformed with an extended rear end and roof, making space for an area that will be home to a fold-out bed, desk and storage spaces. In fact, it doesn’t look a far cry from the new Sleep Pack revealed recently for the petrol powered Dacia Jogger.

And assisting the students from the Skoda Vocational School is none other than Skoda design boss Oliver Stafani and his close colleagues. A full reveal of the new Enyaq camper concept will take place later this year.
