VW’s updated sixth-generation van range is now available in Australia.
Volkswagen’s facelifted range of vans and people movers has been revealed for Australia and can be ordered now. Pricing starting at $38,990 before on-roads for the simplest Transporter short-wheelbase.
Comprising the Transporter, Caravell and Multivan models, the 6.1 update brings more than a simple nip and tuck to VW’s commercial and people mover range, with additions such as an electromechanical rack underneath the metal bringing sophisticated lane-keeping assist safety technology.

Standard for the entire range is front assist with city emergency braking (up to 30km/h), crosswind assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. All models also come with a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and some models receive a full digital driver’s display dash normally found in VW passenger models.
Like all VWs, the 6.1 range of vans and people movers are covered by a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty, with fixed-price servicing options over three or five years. Available to order now (including online), VW expects deliveries to commence from November this year.
Transporter T6.1 Van
Kicking off the Transporter range are the short and long-wheelbase vans, fitted as standard with equipment including 16 or 17-inch steel wheels, headlights with DRLs, passenger-side sliding door, tradie-friendly interior cabin full of storage options and rubber flooring, LED lighting throughout the cabin and cargo spaces, leather steering wheel, height adjustment and lumbar support for the driver, 6.5-inch infotainment screen, electric windows, automatic headlights with rain sensing wipers, reversing camera, and parking sensors.
Joining the range early 2021 will be all-wheel drive in VW’s ‘4Motion’ system for the short and long wheelbase TDI340 models.

Transporter 6.1 Crewvan
Following much the same kit out of the Transporter van range, the standard Crewvan does not include 17-inch wheels. Joining the range early 2021 will be all-wheel drive in VW’s ‘4Motion’ system for both models.

Available in only long-wheelbase format, the Transport cab-chassis again follows the equipment list much of the Transporter van’;s equipment list but fitted with 17-inch wheels.

Caravelle 6.1 Trendline
The nine-seat Caravell is available in only one model trim on a long wheelbase. Standard equipment over the Transporter van includes 16-inch alloy wheels rather than steelies, smarter exterior trim including colour-painted bumpers, carpet floors, and fabric trim seats throughout.

Multivan 6.1
The ever popular Multivan people mover is the most technologically endowed, with a larger 8.0-inch infotainment system including wireless app connect for mobile phones. Both Comfortline and Highline model trims are available, bringing a more comprehensive list of equipment and options.
