The Volkswagen Golf can now keep football fans fully up to date with their team’s progress while on the move, via a new app available to download from the In-Car Shop menu.

The new We Score app delivers live football match updates to the infotainment display, in a way that Volkswagen claims is “displayed in such a way that they do not distract the driver from the road ahead.”

The software is compatible with the Discover Pro and Discover Media infotainment screens fitted on the eighth-generation Golf, provided the user is subscribed to a data plan.

Users can set three domestic clubs and one national team as favourites. In England, clubs in the top two divisions of the football pyramid (Premier League and EFL Championship) are covered by the We Score app. Followers of clubs in European club competitions can keep track of those fixtures too, with UEFA Champions League and Europa League updates.

International match coverage will include updates on fixtures at the rescheduled UEFA Euro 2020 tournament, due to take place later this year.

Not only can the vehicle display live scores, but it can also display league tables and football news, as well as a live match ticker with real-time updates for chosen fixtures.

Match updates are announced by a text-to-speech function, so the driver doesn’t have to look at the display to stay in the loop with a live fixture.
