Apple CarPlay connectivity is now available in models using Android Automotive OS – the infotainment software rolled out on new Volvos since 2021.

Volvo has issued a new over-the-air update for newer versions of its cars which use Android Automotive OS-based infotainment systems, with this latest upgrade including a feature that’s been missing since the brand ditched its own software platform for Google’s development.

Native Apple smartphone integration has been absent on Android Automotive-powered Volvo infotainment systems since their introduction, and it was something we pointed out when we first got to grips with the otherwise impressive setup during our first drive of the Volvo C40 last year.

Now though, iPhone users can bridge the gap to mirror their iOS devices on the Android system, though only through a wired connection using a USB cable – wireless CarPlay integration has not been confirmed.

Volvo has been issuing over-the-air updates since early 2021, and the brand estimates that its previous update, issued in April 2022, was successfully downloaded by almost 200,000 new Volvo vehicles worldwide.
